Oregon Humane Society Speaker Series
Heart-to-Heart Communication with Animals Ever wondered what your dog is thinking? Please join Roberta Cobb and a canine companion from Oregon Humane Society to explore the basics of animal communication – what it is, how it works, and fun techniques to practice on your own. Cobb will share her experiences working with shelter pets at OHS and demonstrate some of the benefits of heart-to-heart conversations to help pets and people enjoy a close and happy relationship. Please note, private consultations will not be available– this informational event will help you explore your own animal communication skills! Come with an open mind and a willingness to try something new! Roberta Cobb is a longtime OHS volunteer who has been communicating with shelter pets for over five years. She also serves on the OHS Technical Animal Rescue team, trained to respond locally when animals are in danger and nationally during large-scale disasters.
Positive Strategies for Improving Your Dog’s Behavior Is your dog’s behavior driving you crazy? OHS Behavior expert and Certified Pet Trainer Tanya Roberts will answer your questions and suggest proven strategies for addressing your dog’s problem behaviors. Tanya’s training philosophy focuses on using positive reinforcement and building a strong, healthy bond between dogs and people. Please note: this presentation is for people only; you will gain tips and techniques to take home and try on your own. Tanya Roberts leads the Training & Behavior Team at the Oregon Humane Society, where she offers behavior classes and individual consultations for the animal-loving public, their pets, and animal care professionals throughout the region. Her team also helps shelter pets overcome behavior issues so that they will be adopted more quickly. Tanya is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and represents the Oregon Humane Society at numerous educational conferences on cat and dog veterinary behavior and training.
Celebrating 139 years of service to animals in the community, the Oregon Humane Society is dedicated to helping animals and people. Last year, over 9,000 animals were adopted through the Oregon Humane Society, more than 930 reports of animal abuse and neglect were investigated, almost 20,000 children were taught humane education, and hundreds of nursing home residents were visited by animal assisted therapy volunteers and their animals.
