SUMMARY:Forest Pub: Painted Forests\, Hidden Data
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS HERE!\nCan art history support forest-science research? If yes\, what can 19th-century landscape paintings reveal about forests of the past? In this Forest Pub\, Oregon State University forest-scientists Dana Warren and Harper Loeb explore how historic artworks serve as unexpected sources of ecological data. By examining the balance between observation and artistic license\, their work uncovers new ways to understand long-term forest change. \nJoin us for an evening where art meets science\, revealing how early landscape paintings can deepen our understanding of past ecosystems and inspire new approaches to forest stewardship today. Part of a program series for World Forestry Center’s newest temporary art exhibition\, Forest Hope Through Innovation\, this event brings together science\, creative practice\, and community knowledge. \nForest Pubs invites the public to gather and ask questions\, share perspectives\, and consider what it means to care for forests in a time of rapid change. Bring your curiosity and your care for the landscapes we call home. \nAbout our speakers: \n\n\nDana Warren is an Associate Professor within the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society\, College of Forestry at Oregon State University. He studies aquatic ecosystems and has broad research interests that encompass fish\, ecosystems\, forests\, invertebrates\, biogeochemistry\, historical ecology\, and restoration.\n\n\n\n\nHarper Loeb is the Hands on the Land Project Coordinator for the Oregon State University Extension Fire Program. She holds a Master of Science in Forest Ecosystems and Society from Oregon State University and a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Oregon. Her research focuses on historical ecology\, fire history\, and collaborative approaches to forest management.
