After two years of COVID closure, we are welcoming the public back to our signature attraction
We will reopen our 20,000-square-foot Discovery Museum to the public on June 15, 2022.
Located in Portland’s Washington Park, directly off the MAX Light Rail, the Discovery Museum has been a beloved local and regional attraction and the cornerstone of our public programming since it first opened in 1971.
“We’ve used this time to improve the visitor experience and refine our public programs,” said Executive Director Joe Furia. “We’re thrilled to welcome guests back in person and to be looking toward the future of our organization and the Discovery Museum space.”
Several new exhibits and features join familiar museum favorites. “We wanted to reopen the museum with some refreshed content,” said Experience Director Tim Hecox. “We’ll have new documentaries playing in our onsite theater, an incredible new art exhibit on wildfire, and a free community-engagement exhibit we’ve created on the future of our forests.”
Built in the dramatic Northwest Regional style by famed architect John Storrs, the Discovery Museum building has been a Portland landmark for decades. Inside, visitors can explore society’s connection to forests and the challenges and opportunities facing this critical natural resource.
The Discovery Museum is located adjacent to Oregon Zoo and Hoyt Arboretum at 4033 SW Canyon Road, Portland, OR 97221. It will be open Wednesdays-Sundays from 11 am – 4 pm starting June 15.
