To mark its 60th anniversary, World Forestry Center presents A Story of Growth, a pop-up exhibit exploring the journey from forest to fiber through a limited-edition blanket created in partnership with Pendleton Woolen Mills and Portland-based artist and architect Genevieve Fu.
Inspired by the pattern of tree rings, the design reflects how forests—and communities—grow over time. Each ring tells a story: of resilience, change, and connection. It’s a fitting symbol for World Forestry Center at 60—rooted in our past, resilient through change, and rising toward what’s next.
This small but layered exhibit traces that story across craft, design, and place—connecting forests to the materials we use every day and the people who shape them.
Creating a Community Quilt
Visitors are invited to take part in the experience by contributing to collaborative “tree ring” quilts made from upcycled Pendleton wool. Add your own layer and become part of the story—as each new ring builds on what came before.
Over time, the quilts will grow into a collective record of shared experience, shaped by many hands. Together, they reflect the ways we are all connected to forests—and to one another.
