Can art history support forest-science research? If yes, what can 19th-century landscape paintings reveal about forests of the past? In this Forest Pub, Oregon State University forest-scientists Dana Warren and Harper Loeb explore how historic artworks serve as unexpected sources of ecological data. By examining the balance between observation and artistic license, their work uncovers new ways to understand long-term forest change.
