Community Altar: A Place for Remembrance

October 16 - November 1
wfc community altar dia de los muertos.

In honor of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), World Forestry Center is hosting a pop-up community altar in our museum lobby from October 16–30. Created in collaboration with Xochitl Cano, a local ceremonial practitioner who carries forward Mexica and Mayan traditions through prayer, healing, and cultural practice. This shared space invites visitors to pause, remember loved ones, and celebrate the connections that continue beyond their lives.

Visitors are invited to participate in the Wings of Remembrance display by writing the name of a beloved person on a butterfly, whispering their name and a loving message into its wings, and gently tying it to the display. Each butterfly becomes a small tribute to the memories, love, and connections we carry with us.

We welcome our community to visit, reflect, and add their own butterfly to this shared space of remembrance.
